On 3 May 2019, the Foundation Board celebrated the 2018 Neel Award winner at a ceremony in conjunction with the Quarterly Board meeting. Vanessa M. Schulman won the prize for her essay entitled “J. On Thursday, 20 September 2018, the Museum Foundation hosted breakfast for 27 candidate teams, cadre, chain of command, and family members to mark the completion of the 2018 Army Best Medic Competition. The annual competition took place at Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis, Texas, and wrapped up on Wednesday, 19 September. The 2017 Spurgeon Neel Writing Award was presented at the recent Foundation Board meeting on 4 May 2018. This year’s winner, chosen from among a competitive field, was Justin Barr, MD, PhD on the staff at Department of Surgery, Duke University Medical Center. His essay entitled “America’s Guerilla Hospitals in the Vietnam War” won the competition.
